From April 2-3, AGC of Washington proudly sponsored the grand opening of the new SR 520 Bridge, located in the center of a stretch of highway that extends from I-5 in Seattle to I-405 in Bellevue. SR 520 officially becomes the world’s longest floating bridge, which is supported by nearly 80 pontoons.
Other additions along the highway from Seattle to Bellevue include new HOV lanes, safer bridge structures and wetland improvements.
During the grand opening, attendees celebrated the occasion by walking and biking its length. The event included “Go Play” activities, a “Go Run” fun run and a “Go Bike” bike ride.
Thousands of professionals from the environmental, engineering and construction fields made this vital project a reality for our community, including a number of AGC-member firms. AGC of Washington congratulates those firms: Associated Underwater Services; Belarde Construction Company; Bravo Environmental NW, Inc.; Diamond B Constructors, Inc.; Flatiron; Garner Construction, Inc.; General Construction Company; Global Diving and Salvage, Inc.; Granite; Harris Rebar Seattle, Inc.; Johansen Mechanical; John-Wayne Construction; Kiewit Infrastructure West; McKinstry Company, LLC; PCL Construction; and Pacific Pile and Marine.
We are excited to kick off a bright future for this incredible structure—and for the people of Washington who will enjoy the health benefits of walking and biking across it. The structure is a testament to the hard-working men and women who are integral to Washington’s construction industry.
