A year of safety: True progress for our community

One of the most critical aspects of our work at AGC of Washington is promoting safety across our industry.

We recently released our 2022 annual report. Here, we shared some safety information and how it improved during the past year. Here are some highlights of the report.

By the numbers: Safety data for 2022

Our Safety Services department worked with dozens of member firms for the entire year to raise concerns and solve issues. This includes work on the ground with inspectors, helping to appeal for assistance with settlement agreements, among other duties.

Here are a few of the safety initiatives we took part in:

• We performed 202 job site audits
• We gave 300 telephone consultations
• We distributed more than 2,000 Culture of CARE hardhat stickers
• We hosted 19 hybrid-format safety forums throughout the chapter

Highlights of a year of safety

One awareness project that resonated with our membership was National Work Zone Awareness Week in April. As part of the education to the community, it included reminders for people to be more attentive as they drove in construction zones and slowed down. We also hosted the first Moment of Silence Day to remember those who lost their lives in a work zone incident.

AGCW also hosted several “safe summer barbecues” during the summer. Among the displays as part of these events were showcases of protective solutions companies can use to foster employee safety better.

We also debuted the 988 Crisis Line as part of our work in suicide prevention. Statistics point to the overall impact on workers, families and communities that touch the construction industry, so we updated our Mental Health and Suicide-Prevention resources page on our website, which includes the new national 988 line for immediate resources for better mental health.

Providing support and education

The work of the safety team is never-ending, as they continue through this year to promote safety and awareness that goes beyond the job site. The idea is to build an economically strong and vibrant community where families and businesses can prosper equally. Having initiatives, supportive benefits and education for all AGCW can help to achieve this.

We focus on strategic decisions and practical actions in our work for our members, always tailored to the unique realities that we all face and the changing landscape that’s a part of the business world.
