With the 2016 legislative session around the corner, AGC of Washington remains committed to enhancing the performance and representation of our contractor-members, promoting the respect and integrity of the commercial construction industry and improving the quality of life in our communities.
To that end, we are announcing the following legislative priorities for the new year with an eye toward safeguarding our region’s contractors while opposing legislation that burdens them with needless regulation.
AGC will work for: | AGC will work against: |
Protection of the transportation funding priorities established in the 2015 new revenue package for transportation. | Proposals that unreasonably increase business taxes, costs or regulations. |
Rational and reasonable environmental and business regulation reforms. | Proposals that divert funds from dedicated programs to other unrelated purposes. |
Proposals to increase funding for capital construction – particularly, restoration of the Public Works Trust Fund. | Any legislative proposals that seek to divert 18th amendment protected revenues to other government programs. |
Rational and reasonable prevailing wage reforms. | Public construction procurement methods which are not well vetted or do not have a consensus of support within the affected AGC contractor membership. |
Workers’ Compensation system improvements. | Environmental proposals that impose unnecessary burdens on contractors which are not practical, or are not economically and technically feasible. |
Tax simplification on construction activities. | Detrimental land use laws which make development efforts unreasonably difficult or costly. |
Programs and opportunities that increase and improve the construction-industry workforce. |
We believe these goals will strengthen the economy and treat all interests fairly.
