On June 5, Washington Governor Jay Inslee announced the launch of Phase 2 of the state’s COVID-19 recovery plan. Under this phase, all construction projects, including new work can resume.
While it’s exciting that men and women are returning to job sites, it’s your responsibility as a foreman to keep team members safe. Regulations will be strictly enforced, so you’ll want to avoid a hefty fine or penalty. In addition to social distancing measures, there are three areas in particular that Phase 1 focuses on:
1.) COVID-19 site supervisor. Every construction job site must now have a designated COVID-19 supervisor. This individual must be present at all times during construction activities, except for single-family residential job sites or sites with six or fewer people. After you select a site supervisor, you’re required by law to put their name and contact information on signs and postings throughout the construction area.
2.) COVID-19 safety training. Upon your crews return to work, you must host a Safety Stand-Down, also known as a toolbox talk or tailgate training. At the start of each week, you’re required to host a similar session. During a Safety Stand-Down, you need to explain all of the protective measures you’ve put in place for your workers. Make sure to practice social distancing during these events and have each of your team members sign in for official records confirmation.
3.) Adherence to worksite specific safety practices. Contractors must also take steps to ensure each individual worksite takes actions to reduce the spread and transmission of the novel coronavirus.
