In 2023, a bill was passed in Washington State requiring construction employers to compensate construction workers for their unused sick leave if they don’t complete 90 days of employment. The Department of Labor and Industries later broadened the scope of the bill to include construction-office staff, which was not the original intent. In 2024, Senate Bill 5979 redefined the term “construction worker” and was immediately enacted upon the Governor’s signature on March 13, 2024. Learn more here.
