The most important asset of any company is indeed its people. To that end, the construction industry needs to do all it can to make sure its people are cared for and respected.
It’s one of the reasons why AGC of Washington has committed to fostering a Culture of CARE (Commit / Attract / Retain / Empower). That is the name of our far-reaching initiative to help our members’ businesses improve safety, productivity and retention of skilled tradespeople. We do this by supporting diverse and inclusive workplaces.
Here’s a look at what we have done thus far with the Culture of CARE, and how you can get more involved.
Building more diversity and inclusion
First, let’s talk about what the CARE acronym stands for:
Besides the fact that it’s the right thing to do for all residents of Washington, the Culture of CARE also has other benefits. We support the idea that a culture shift toward more diversity and inclusion also leads to increased employee productivity, recruiting and retaining your best talent, increasing innovation, and creating a more robust safety structure in the workplace.
These things also lead to more profitability for the companies that embrace it. Several companies that are part of the ACGW have pledged to attract and provide diversity, retain and value human relationships and empower their employees to harness the power of diversity for the benefit of everyone.
Finding support and help
One way that we at the AGCW can help with the Culture of CARE is to provide resources that companies can use to make inclusion a part of their workplace. We have a list of pre-apprentice programs, community groups and business organizations that can help our member companies reach hiring and specialty-contractor diversity goals.
If additional training on diversity and inclusion is also needed, we have resources for that. Our best practices and jobsite resources page has videos, articles, posters and more than can help bring the message of diversity into your workplace.
Supporting the people of ACGW
The Culture of CARE is part of our goal to build an economically strong and vibrant community where families and businesses can prosper equally. Having initiatives, supportive benefits and education for all AGCW can help to achieve this.
We focus on strategic decisions and practical actions in our work for our members, always tailored to the unique realities that we all face and the changing landscape that’s a part of the business world.
