One of AGC of Washington’s proudest moments was creating our education foundation. Going beyond just contributing to the community financially, decades ago our members wanted to establish a specific place where we could support education about construction from every possible angle.
We wanted to share more information about the AGC Education Foundation, including one particular aspect of note to potential industry leaders. It’s just one element of our foundation’s tireless work to educate and inform.
What the foundation does
First, let’s talk about the history of the AGC Education Foundation. It began in 1980 and was founded by AGCW members. Our mission is to serve the state’s construction industry through education, outreach, scholarships and grant programs.
The programs we’ve developed are meant for every stage of a construction career. This includes our current employees in the industry, adults interested in a career in construction, students from grade school through college and middle and high school instructors.
The future leaders of tomorrow
One of the most utilized aspects of the AGC foundation is our leadership training program. The courses are taught by industry experts who bring their job site experiences into the classroom for practical training that appeals to a broad audience.
Among the components of the leadership training program are these:
Construction Leadership Series: This is a seven-module series for people with 10-plus years of experience who want to be leaders.
STP: The Supervisory Training Program was developed and field-tested by and for contractors. It focuses on the knowledge and skills every supervisor needs to be effective.
PMDP: The Project Manager Development Program covers the essentials of project management for emerging leaders and is an excellent tool for long-term career development.
FTP: A four-course series, the Foreman Training Program is for those early in their career. It teaches the best routes toward safety, time management, equipment supervision and the best use of materials.
Even more to discuss
These are just the start of what the AGC foundation does for the entire community. From other classes to outreach programs, scholarship giving to grant writing, it is all about giving back to Washington State through our industry.
